September 18, 2012 — Lafayette, LA — Patrick Christovich of New Orleans, Robby McWilliams of Bossier City, and Matt Nicholas of Lake Charles will represent Louisiana in the bi-annual USGA State Team Championship to be held September 19-21 at Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey.

The Championship was originally conducted to commemorate the USGA centennial in 1997 and was so popular that the USGA has continued to conduct the Championship on an every other year basis since that time.  The Louisiana Golf Association uses a points list based upon individuals’ finishes in the USGA Amateur, Mid-Amateur, and Open Championships, as well as the LGA Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships, to determine team members for this prestigious event.

Christovich is the reigning LGA Amateur Champion and three-time Mid-Amateur Champion, having won the Amateur at TPC Louisiana in June and the Mid-Amateur at Squire Creek CC in August. He also competed in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Conway Farms GC, IL last week, where he advanced to match play.  McWilliams is no stranger to competing on the national level either, with a number of USGA Championship appearances including advancing to the quarterfinals in the 2010 U.S. Mid-Amateur at Atlantic Golf Club, NY.  Nicholas won the 2009 LGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Oakbourne CC, and went on to compete in the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay, WA.

Competitors will play 54 holes, with the best two of three scores counting each day for the team’s score.  All fifty states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico will be represented at the Championship.  The competition will take place on the Tom Fazio-designed course at Galloway National Golf Club, which is just a short drive north of Atlantic City.

The Louisiana Golf Association, the governing body for amateur golf in Louisiana, is sponsoring the team.
