April 1, 2024 | Maili Bartz

Lafayette, Louisiana – Our April Louisiana Junior Golf Tour Player of the Month is Mr. Theodore “Drew” Anthony Sliman IV. Residing in Lafayette, Louisiana, Drew is currently a student at Lafayette High School. Drew has been an avid player on the tour and recently claimed the championship title in the 2023 Lake Charles Spring Classic at Contraband Bayou Golf Club! We had the privilege of conducting an interview with Sliman, where he shared insights into his golf success. Here are his responses!

What is you favorite golf course you have played so far?

Mountaintop Golf and Lake Club in North Carolina

What college do you plan on attending?

Not sure yet!

If you could play golf with anyone in the world, who would you pick?

My dad, grandpa(s), and Tiger Woods but if I had to pick one it would be Tiger because he’s Tiger and because I would learn a lot.

When did you start playing golf?

Every since I was little but started competitively when I was 12

What inspired you to take up the game?

Golf has always been a part of my family. My dad, grandpa, and great grandpa all played at a high level so I’m just following in their footsteps.

What is your favorite memory from playing golf?

My hole in one at Mountaintop. Having my dad there and a few of our friends was pretty cool.

Describe your pre-round routine.

Always starts out by marking 2 balls with a red sharpie. Usually putt first then hit balls, even clubs only, and then putt or chip again.

Any superstitions or rituals before a tournament?

If I have a morning tee time I always eat a McDonalds sausage McMuffin with a strawberry smoothie before. Always have the same ball marker and always use a red sharpie.

What’s your go-to club in a challenging situation?

My 60 degree

What is your dream course to play?

Augusta National

If you were a golf club, which would you be and why?

Putter because that’s where all the money is made. A good putter can turn a bad round into a good round.

What is your go-to snack and/or food/meal to get you “tournament ready”?

Either the McDonald’s breakfast or some uncrustables

Who is someone you love to play with or against because you know it will help improve your golf game?

Jay Mendell and Kale Fontenot, both are pretty equal. I’ve learned so much growing up around them at Oakbourne

What advice would you give to aspiring young golfers?

I would say that your demeanor and self talk is more important than people think. While a good score comes from good swings, a good character will say a lot about a person and how they handle tough situations.

Favorite hobbies or activities besides golf?

Spending time with my family and friends, watch tv, or play any sport for fun.

Write one random fact about yourself

My real name is Theodore. I go by Drew because I am the fourth generation, qua”dru”ple. My dad got the idea from Davis Love III.

The Louisiana Golf Association and Louisiana Junior Golf Tour are proud to spotlight the amazing young talent that plays on our tour and see them succeed through future endeavors.
