BOBBY ALLEN LEADS LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION NET AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER FIRST ROUND OF PLAY

Baton Rouge, Louisiana  --  May 16, 2009  --  Bobby Allen of Geismar fired a three-under par 69 on Saturday to lead after first round play in the 2009 Louisiana Golf Association Net Amateur Championship at Santa Maria Golf Club in Baton Rouge. Allen, who played with a USGA Handicap Index of 2.5 (course handicap of 3), shot a gross score of even par-72. A.J. Dupree of Baton Rouge (10.9 Index/13 course handicap) and Barry Braud of Baton Rouge16.4 Index/19 course handicap) are tied for second with 70s.  Steven Garcia of Baton Rouge (7.1 Index/8course handicap) is one more shot back at 71, with William Johnson of Slidell (14.9 Index/17 course handicap) rounding out the top five at even par 72.

This year’s event is being held at the Robert Trent Jones, Sr., designed Santa Maria GC in Baton Rouge, which played to a par of 72 at 6,600 yards on Saturday. The course played firm and fast as Santa Maria escaped the rains that inundated the Baton Rouge area on Thursday and Friday.

The LGA conducts this event to provide a true championship event for the higher handicap player with procedures in place to assure that consistency and integrity are benchmarks for the event. The LGA is utilizing the USGA Tournament Score Probability Table to adjust any handicap indexes where a player’s score exceeds normal probability.   In addition to the Overall Net Championship, the field is divided into four flights with the top-three finishers in each flight also receiving awards.

In the seventh annual Net Club Team Championship, conducted concurrently with the Net Amateur, the team from ExxonMobil Golf Club in Baton Rouge leads after the first round with a net score of two-over par 218. ExxonMobil teammates Bubba Anselso, Barry Braud, A.J. Dupree, and Darrell Gerald lead the team from Abita Springs Golf & Country Club by four shots with 18 holes to play.
