PRESS RELEASE ENTRIES CLOSE FOR LGA STATE AMATEUR AT ENGLISH TURN Lafayette, Louisiana -- April 30, 2009 -- Entries closed on Tuesday, April 28, for the 90th edition of the Louisiana Golf Association’s Amateur Championship. Seven qualifiers will be held across the state to finalize the field of 144 players that will compete over 72 holes for the most prestigious Amateur Championship in the state. 31 players are exempt from having to qualify while 113 players will emerge from sectional qualifying to reach Championship round play at the Jack Nicklaus-designed English Turn Golf & Country Club track in New Orleans. Qualifiers will be held at the following sites: Baton Rouge-Santa Maria GC/May 4, New Orleans-Carter Plantation/May 4, Lafayette-Wetlands GC/May 5, Monroe-Southern Pines CC (Hills course)/May 5, Shreveport-Palmetto CC/May 5, Lake Charles-Gray Plantation/May 11, and Houma-Ellendale CC/May 12. 2008 Champion Jarrod Barsamian of Baton Rouge will return to defend the title he won at Gray Plantation in Lake Charles last June. Runner-up Bo Stewart of Lake Charles is also in the field, as are Lake Charles’ Robby Going, Bossier City’s Robby McWilliams, and Sulphur’s Cory Vincent, who all tied for third, two shots back of Barsamian. English Turn G & CC will play to a par of 72 at approximately 7,000 yards. The course, which played host to the New Orleans PGA Tour stop for a number of years, also hosted the 1996 and 2002 LGA Mid-Amateur Championships. This will be its first time to host the LGA Amateur, an event that has been conducted each year since 1920. The Championship tees off on Thursday morning, June 4, at 7:30 a.m., off both #1 and #10 tees.
