PRESS RELEASE LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2008 CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE November 26, 2007 Lafayette, LA The Louisiana Golf Association announced its 2008 Championship Schedule on Monday. The LGA will again conduct nine Championship and 16 qualifying events during 2008, beginning in mid April with the Club Team Championship and concluding in mid September with the Senior 4-Ball Championship. “We are extremely excited about our 2008 LGA Championship schedule,” said LGA President John Luffey. “We continue to be appreciative to our Member Clubs that are willing to give back to the game by opening their doors to our Championships. We are retuning to Santa Maria Golf Club and Lake Charles Country Club for the first time in a number of years and are excited about having those facilities back in our Championship rotation.” The LGA’s 89th Amateur Championship, an event that crowned its first champion in 1920, will be conducted June 5-8 at Gray Plantation in Lake Charles, a facility that always ranks in the Top Five courses in the state. Ellendale Country Club in Houma will welcome the 2008 Mid-Amateur Championship August 1-3. The Ellendale course was completely renovated four years ago and promises to be an extremely popular site for this event that brings the top 25 years of age and older players together. The 2008 schedule kicks off with the Club Team Championship in mid April at the Atchafalaya GC at Idlewild in Patterson. This event matches teams from LGA Member Clubs in an exciting Ryder Cup type format consisting of 4-Ball play on Saturday and individual play on Sunday. Mid May finds Baton Rouge’s Santa Maria GC hosting the Net Amateur and Net Club Team Championships. After the Amateur at Gray Plantation, the LGA returns to Santa Maria for the Junior Amateur Championship in early July. Carter Plantation in Springfield will be the site of the 4-Ball Championship in mid July. August finds the LGA heading south to Ellendale for the Mid-Am, then into the Lafayette area for the Senior Amateur Championship at the Farm d’Allie Golf Club, just north of I-10. The season ends at Lake Charles Country Club in mid September with the Senior 4-Ball Championship. Qualifiers will again be conducted for both the Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships. Eight sites around the state (New Orleans, Houma, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Monroe, and Shreveport) will conduct sectional qualifying rounds for all entrants not exempt into Championship round play. As has been the case over the last few years, in addition to the Overall Championship, concurrent Age-Group Championships for Age-Groups 60-64 and 65-69 will be conducted at the Senior Amateur and Senior Four-Ball events. Individuals 70 & over may elect to compete in the Overall Championship by playing from the same tees as the Overall competitors but will also have the option of competing only in their Age Group division and playing from a more forward set of tees. LGA Championship events are open to members of LGA Member Clubs.
