KYLE CHAUVIN LEADS AFTER
TWO ROUNDS IN 2008 LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
June 6, 2008 – Kyle Chauvin of Carencro shot even par 72 on Friday to
finish 36 holes at two-under par 142 and lead a strong trio of players
at one-under 143. Chauvin’s round on Friday was one of consistency with
16 pars, a bogey on #3 and a birdie on #15. Sharing second place is
five-time Amateur runner-up Tommy Brennan of Covington, recent high
school graduate Andrew Noto of Luling, and West Monroe’s Clinton
Shepard, all at one-under par through 36 holes. Brennan and Noto both
fired two-under par rounds of 70 on Friday, while Shepard finished with
a 71. Bo Stewart of Lake Charles, playing his home course, and first
round leader Eric Lavespere of Monroe are in at even par 144 and tied
for fifth.
The day’s best round was turned in by Ruston’s Chad Bailey, a bogey-free
five-under par 67. Other under par scores on Friday were posted by Brent
Struthers of Baton Rouge (70), Jarrod Barsamian of Baton Rouge (70),
Eddy Koracevic of Monroe (70), Brad Jackson of Baton Rouge (71), Harry
Shaheen of Lake Charles (71), Corey Bartlett of Ruston (71), and Timothy
Byrd of LaPlace (71).
The Rocky Roquemore designed Gray Plantation course played to a par of
72 at just over 7,000 yards on Friday. Play was conducted under hot and
humid conditions with strong southerly winds again affecting play,
although not to the degree as during first round play on Thursday.
The field was cut after Friday’s play to the low 60 and ties with 70
players surviving the cut at 10-over par 154. Third round play will
begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday off #1 tee with the leaders going off at
10:57 AM.
