WILLOWDALE COUNTRY CLUB LEADS AFTER FIRST ROUND OF LOUISIANA GOLF
ASSOCIATION CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
April 19, 2008 --
Patterson, Louisiana -- Willowdale Country Club of Luling took advantage
of the gorgeous weather Saturday to post an 11-under par score of 133
and take a one-shot lead entering second round play at the Louisiana
Golf Association Club Team Championship. In a format where a team counts
two of their three four-ball scores in the first round, the Willowdale
CC squad didn’t even use a third score of 69.
Willowdale was led by the father-son team of Brian (Dad) and Andrew
(son) Noto with a six-under par 66. After bogeying their first two holes
of the round, the Notos played the final 16 holes in eight under par.
Jarrett Walker and Landon Clause fired a five-under 67, with Duane Lorio
and Seth Dufrene finishing with the aforementioned 69. Alexandria’s
OakWing Golf Club is alone in second, one shot back at 134, in the
tightly bunched field. The University Club of Baton Rouge is another
shot back at 135, with Pine Hills CC of Calhoun at 136, the Louisiana
Amateur Golf Tour GC at 137, and Hebert Municipal GC from Lafayette at
138.
Clubs participating in the 20th LGA Club Team Championship are
represented by six-man teams. Saturday’s play consists of four-ball
stroke play with each team counting the two best of their three
four-ball scores. Sunday’s play consists of individual stroke play with
a team’s score being determined by counting the best four of six
individual scores. With the number of scores being counted on Sunday
doubling those counted on Saturday, no first round lead is
insurmountable.
The Championship is being conducted at the Atchafalaya GC at Idlewild, a
relatively new Robert Van Hagge design in Patterson, just north of
Morgan City. Featuring Spanish-moss covered oaks and quick greens, the
course drew rave reviews from this strong field. The course measured
6811 yards and played to a par of 72 on Saturday. Final round starting
times will begin a 7:30 AM on Sunday with the leaders set to go off at
11:30, 11:40, and 11:50 AM.
