September 21, 2012 — Broussard, LA — The twenty-sixth annual Louisiana Golf Association Senior Four-Ball Championship begins Saturday at Le Triomphe Golf & Country Club in Broussard, just south of Lafayette. Defending Champions Bill Land and John Davis of Lafayette return to defend the title they won a year ago at Money Hill G & CC in Abita Springs.  Including Land and Davis, 12 former Champions are in the field, including 2008 Champions Dennis Smith and Brad Mosing of Lafayette, 2007 Champions Darell Benoit of Belle Chasse and Wiley Conn of Mandeville, Benoit playing this year with Bart Dornier of Metairie, while Conn competes with Keith Kline, also of Mandeville.

2005 Champion Robert Shelton of Lafayette, who also finished as runner-up one shot back of Land and Davis in 2011, with partner Ben Thibeaux, 2004 Champions Curt McClure of Shreveport and Corky Yates of Pineville (who also won in 1998), 2003 Champions Sid Harp of Donaldsonville and Sam Lavigne of Gonzales, and 1996 Champion Henry Cole of Monroe complete the list of former Champions.

Others expected to vie for the 2012 crown include: 2012 LGA Senior Amateur Champion Doug Farr of Monroe and Grady Brame of Hammond and John Henchy of Baton Rouge and Scott Haynie of Brusly.

As indicated, this year’s Championship will be held at Le Triomphe Golf & Country Club, a Robert Trent Jones, Jr., design that also hosts the annual Web.com Tour stop, the Chitimacha Louisiana Open.  This marks the first LGA Championship held at the Le Triomphe facility since the 2000 Mid-Amateur Championship.  Le Triomphe is also scheduled to host the LGA’s 95th Amateur Championship in June 2014

The LGA will also conduct concurrent Championships for Age Groups 60-64, 65-69, and 70 & Over.

For this weekend the course will play to a par of 72 at just over 6,650 yards.  Starting times will begin at 7:30 AM off #1 tee.  Teams will be repaired for Sunday’s round, based on Saturday’s scores with the final pairing scheduled to go off at 12:10 PM.
