August 6, 2012 — Choudrant, LA — Brad Landry of Scott, Louisiana shot an even par 72 on Monday to win medalist honors at the USGA Mid-Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant. John Talley of St. Martinville, Louisiana and Gregory Flanagan of Texarkana, Texas, both shot rounds of one-over par 73, with Flanagan winning a playoff for the second qualifying spot. Both Landry and Flanagan will advance to the Championship at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, September 8-13. Talley is the first alternate.
Dean Mijalis of Shreveport, Chris Donaldson of New Orleans, and John Fisher of Collierville, Tennessee all shot rounds of two-over par 74, with Fisher winning a playoff for the second alternate spot.
The Tom Fazio designed Squire Creek course, which hosted the Louisiana Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship this past weekend, played to a par of 72 at 7,011 yards.
In Lake Forest, the field of 264 will compete over 36 holes of stroke play qualifying on September 8 & 9. The low 64 players will then be placed in a match play draw to determine the champion with the first match to be played on September 10. Second and third round matches will be conducted on September 11; quarter-final and semi-final rounds will be played on September 12, with the final championship round to be conducted on September 13.
