June 18, 2012 — Lafayette, LA — The 2012 Louisiana Golf Association Junior Amateur Championship will serve as a part of the selection process for the 2012 Louisiana-Mississippi Junior Cup Matches.  The inaugural Cup Matches, a Ryder Cup type competition between teams of Juniors representing Louisiana and Mississippi, were held last fall at Southern Pines GC in Calhoun, LA, and will be held this September at Greenwood CC in Greenwood, MS. 

Beginning in 2013 the Louisiana Golf Association will administer the Matches when held in Louisiana with the Mississippi Golf Association taking on that responsibility each year Mississippi hosts the event. 

The top finishers in this summer’s LGA Junior Amateur Championship will receive invitations to participate on the team representing Louisiana this September at Greenwood CC.  This year’s LGA Junior Amateur Championship will be conducted July 11-13 at Links on the Bayou GC in Alexandria.  The Championship is open to any Louisiana Junior 10-17 years of age holding membership in a LGA Member Club.  Participants may enter the Overall Championship which will be played over 54 holes and includes the top Junior players in the state; or they may elect to enter their Age Group Championship that allows them to compete against other juniors their age.  Age Group Championships will be conducted over 36 holes.  Age Group division will be determined after the close of entries but normally are grouped in the following manner:  10-11, 12-13, 14-15, and 16-17.
