OAKWING GC TAKES TITLE IN 2013 LGA CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

April 28, 2013 — Alexandria, LA – Squirrel Run Golf Club of New Iberia had a two shot lead over Hebert Municipal Golf Club from Lafayette at the start of the final round of the 2013 Louisiana Golf Association Club Team Championship.  However, it was the host club, OakWing Golf Club of Alexandria, that would rally from behind and claim the victory.  Sunday’s play consisted of individual stroke play with a team’s score being determined by the best four of six individual scores.  This format means that no lead is insurmountable and makes for an exciting finish.  OakWing, Champions in 2009, flipped their five shot deficit to start the final round into a five shot win.

OakWing accounted for four of the twelve scores that were posted under par today.  The veteran team showed grit and determination to grind out the victory.  Their knowledge of their home course helped too.  Their team total of 17-under par 415 bested second place Hebert Municipal Golf Club of Lafayette (12-under, 240) by five shots and third place Squirrel Run Golf Club of New Iberia (7-under, 425) by ten shots.
